Objective- the aim of this presentation is to share our preliminary experience in treating Giant Cell lesions of the jaws.
Methods- A one ten years old boy with an extensive giant cell granuloma of the maxilla was treated with intralesionsl steroid injections. After this method of treatment had no effect, the patient was treated with RANK-Ligand inhibitor causig an involution of the maxillary lesion requiring no surgical treatment or minor curretage only.
Two sisters suffering from Cherubism causing them facial disfigurement and extensive loss of teeth, were treated as well with RANK- Ligand inhibitor. After several months of treatment it appears that the lesions in their jaws were going through mineralization according to consecutive CBCT scans.
Results- RANK- Lignad Inhibitors caused remission or involution of giant cell lesions among patients suffering from Central Giant Cell Granulomas and Cherubism.
Conclusion- RANK- Ligand inhibitors may show promise in treatment of several types of Giant Cell lesions and may offer a change in pardigm in the treatment of such lesions mainly affecting the lives of young patients.
