Organisational Conditions Promoting Self-Empowerment of Young People in Youth Homes
A considerable number of young people from youth homes fail to establish a sustainable future. Their ability to take life into their own hands and develop their own ideas of the future is a fundamental for a sustainable life. Led by Anna Schmid and linked by FICE International, five youth homes from Switzerland and Hungary have formed a Community of Practice. In the project Creating Futures, they develop and try out organisational innovations to promote this self-empowerment of young people more effectively. Young Experts, leaders and staff participate in all activities of the project. Together with the multiple perspectives arising from the diversity of the participating organisations, this promotes innovation and enriches collaboration. learnings and recommendations will put at the disposal of the wider expert community.
The workshop offers insights into the project and its ways of working. Results of the literature review and focus group discussions will be presented as well as the framework of analysis developed for the analysis of good practices and development needs in the homes. The workshop participants are invited to reflect on the project methodology and first results, to make recommendations for the continuation of the project and to consider its applicability to their contexts.
