SEM image of a polymerized micron-scale icosahedral building block for future nano-structured materials.
This block was obtained by UV-polymerization of a liquid droplet, spontaneously adopting
the icosahedral shape due to a unique crystallization of its outermost 2 nanometers. Icosahedral building blocks are of high demand in nanotechnology, yet their formation on this scale has never been demonstrated. For more details, see Marin et al., J. Colloid Interface Sci. 538, 541 (2019).
