Arundo donax (Poaceae) is a giant reed, native to the Middle East and growing mostly in wetlands. The image shows a cross section of an outer part of the stem, displaying two vascular bundles typical of grasses. The monkey “eyes” are the xylem vessels, the “nose” is the phloem. Sliding microtome section of fixed untreated material, Safranin-Alcian Blue stain.
