Contact sites and their role in organelle communication

Maya Schuldiner
Molecular Genetics, Weizmann Institute of Science, Israel

The flow of solutes and information within the eukaryotic cell requires inter-organelle communication. Membrane contact sites between two organelles can facilitate both signalling and the passage of ions and lipids from one cellular compartment to another. I will discuss how the field of contact sites has revolutionized cell Biology in the last decade. I will introduce new tools and approaches that we have created to study contact sites and what they have taught us about some of the central contact sites to date.
