The management of these patients is challenging since it involves several medical and surgical aspects. Nearly half of them are caused by firearm accidents, whereas the great majority of fatal wounds are self-inflicted (suicide attempts). Each injury poses unique patterns and requires a special attention. Generally accepted guidelines for treating trauma patients are followed, and imaging is used for nearly all patients.
However, management may roughly depend on the patient's age, etiology and severity.
In this presentation I present and discuss my 25 years experience of treating gunshot patients, including suicide attempts, war injuries, and civilians accidents.
