RNA editing in the cariovascular system in health and disease

RNA Editing is particularly abundant in arteries, for reasons yet largely unknown.

Here we try to characterize key editing patterns within the cardiovascular and cerebrovascular system, with aim to gain further knowledge as to the role of RNA editing in normal function and development of diseases of the arteries and heart.

We discovered a number of editing sites which are altered in diseased individuals, and are of interest for further characterization in vitro and in vivo models.

We also establish RNA editing as an independent predictor of cerebrovascular disease (not shown).

Taken together, these data suggest a key role both for global editing activity, and for editing in specific sites, for maintenance of normal function on one hand, and development of disease on the other.
