Early Experience with an Interdisciplinary Resident Innovation Training Program

Medical device innovation increasingly requires multi-disciplinary approach with engagement from clinicians, engineers, and those from business. Our university, in partnership with the regional clinical and translational research center, recently started a two-year interdisciplinary program open to all resident aimed at providing trainees with additional training and experiences which will enable them to engage in medical device development as their careers develop. Our program leverages many existing opportunities in our medical school and the nearby entrepreneurial community. We describe our planning process and early experiences with running this program.
