Hair follicles serve as an attractive site for research in the field of drug deliveries. Follicular delivery is possible due to penetration through into the root shaft of the hairs and bypassing the epidermis barriers. However, small molecules penetration is very limited, one of the ways to overcome this problem is using nanoparticles as a drug carrier. In this study, we investigate the physical properties of nanoparticles and its impact on follicular penetration.
Nanoparticles with controlled size and morphology have been synthesized uniformly and tested for penetration through hair follicles. We have found that particles with diameter range 100-200nm have the optimal penetration and the more the particles have an anisotropic shape - follicular penetration is increased.
