All living organisms contain proteases and phosphatases enzymes, that play an important role in a variety of biochemical pathways. In whole cells, protease and phosphatase activities are tightly regulated by compartmentalization or endogenous inhibitors to prevent unselective damage to cellular proteins. Cell lysis disturbs the carefully controlled cellular environment therefore crude protein extracts contain endogenous proteases and phosphatases, which can degrade or modify the extracted proteins. The best way to preserve proteins in their native form is to add inhibitors for the proteases and phosphatases known to be present in the extract.

For the last two decades we have provided researchers with convenient protease and phosphatase inhibitors cocktails specifically combined for different organism and applications. While these DMSO based cocktails have been very convenient as they provided the correct combination of inhibitors for specific targets, they were inconvenient as DMSO based formulation freeze at 16°C. As an improvement to these successful cocktails we have now developed a new formulation that remains in liquid form even when stored in freezer.
