Developing a Cloud-Based Crowd Sourced Community AED Mapping and Management Platform – A Potentially Life Saving Tool in Out Of Hospital Cardiac Arrest

נדין לויק EMS Safety Foundation, Israel

Heart disease in Israel is the second leading cause of death over age 45. Out of Hospital Cardiac Arrest (OHCA) mortality is ~92%, with a 10% decrease in survival each minute of delay in CPR/AED use. Ambulances often can’t arrive in time. With lack of a comprehensive Public Access AED (PAD) location system, neither EMS dispatch nor bystanders are able to immediately locate PADs, a factor leading to <2% bystander AED use and high rates of preventable death.

iRescU, is a multimodal cloud-based PAD management platform to capture validated AED geolocation data, for subsequent EMS dispatch linkage and PAD management.

This platform, in addition to capturing existing PAD geolocation datasets, includes crowd-sourced data input tools. GUI design is focused on lay, simple, rapid, streamlined data entry to upload minimal required AED geolocation data via 3 modes of input: web form, mobile app (android/iOS) and twitterbot.

Data entry achieved with iRescU is a multi-interface AED management platform with simple, quick and lay compatible PAD geolocation upload tools. It has scope for expanded community engagement to crowd-source AED geolocations to augment existing limited community AED geolocation data. iRescU’s deployment may expand public awareness and response to OHCA and enhance smart strategic placement of accessible AEDs.
