Big data in health and disease: challenges and opportunities

Maccabi has long been recognized, both in Israel and abroad, as a unique and innovative health care system which leads the way in cutting edge medical technology, comprehensive and integrated computerized information systems, cost–effective management, and sophisticated monitoring and evaluation tools.

Since 1993, electronic medical records (EMR`s) have been implemented in Maccabi, documenting all types of medical information in a central database containing complete data on each patient. This database provides comprehensive, systematic, quality data, of a stable population of patients across their lifetime.

The Kahn-Sagol-Maccabi Research and Innovation Institute was established in order to accelerate Precision medicine and lead in big data analytics. We aim to increase the amount and quality of medical research being performed at any given moment in Israel and worldwide. We have developed a state of the art big data platform, enabling online access world to Maccabi`s database for researchers all around the world. The platform enables predictive analysis research using advanced machine algorithms.

At KSM, we create meaningful partnerships with leading technological, academic and medical institutions in order to develop and implement innovative tools based on Maccabi`s health data. Prof. Shalev will present the Institute`s work, research studies and projects with startup companies and global corporations in various scientific and medical areas.
