Chemistry teaching in high schools in Israel 2020 – developments, achievements and challenges

In this talk I will review the main achievements and developments in Chemistry teaching in high schools in Israel in the last decade 2010 – 2020, with respect to various topics such as Students, Teachers, Schools, Professional Development and Curriculum. I will focus on the following issues:

(1) Students – the fantastic growth of 55% in the number of students;

(2) Teachers – the growing need for teachers and the change of generations;

(3) Schools – new schools, especially in the periphery and the on-line chemistry school "Chimia Ba`reshet";

(4) Teachers` Professional Development – communities of practice and on-line professional development;

(5) Curriculum – thoughts and redesign.

I will also discuss future challenges and plans for the next decade, facing the global changes in teaching methodologies and skills, such as the OECD future of Education and Skills 2030.
