Background: Right ventricular outflow tract systolic excursion (RVOT_SE) has been shown to be a promising echocardiographic parameter of right ventricular (RV) function. The aim of this study was to evaluate its impact on long-term outcome.

Methods: RVOT_SE was measured using the parasternal short-axis view at the aortic valve level and M-Mode echocardiography, and the systolic excursion of the RVOT anterior wall was recorded. RVOT_SE was measured in 50 patients (age 64±18y, 28 males) with normal RV function (Group 1) and 40 patients (age 68±12y, 35 males) with reduced RV function (Group 2). In the present study, we assessed the association between RVOT_SE and long-term survival and survival free of hospitalization for heart failure in a previously published cohort.

Results: RVOT_SE

Estimated 10-year survival free of hospitalization for heart failure was 20% for Group 2 and 68% for Group 1, HR 4.9, 95%CI 2.6-9.2, p<0.001.

Conclusions: RVOT_SE
