Background: The human body orchestrates a network of interacting ligands-receptors that stimulates different tissues to respond to different conditions. Though a large number of ligand-receptor pairs are known, their roles and coordinated response is not fully understood.
Methods: We constructed and analyzed the cross-tissue co-expression networks of 25 human tissues derived from the GTEx project.
Results: We observed co-expression relations of metabolic receptors to other genes and defined tissue-specific and tissue-wide networks.
Conclusion: Our results pinpoint the coordinated response of receptors and can be used to enhance the understanding of the effects of therapeutics that target receptors.
