ABSTRACT BY SPONSOR: Genetic analysis solutions for rapid molecular insights to Corona Virus outbreak - thermofisher scientific

It’s ThermoFisher Scientific mission to enable our customers to make the world healthier, cleaner and safer. Since the new Coronairus, 2019-nCoV had been first discovered in Wuhan, China, ThermoFisher Scientific Genetic Sciences Division immediately started working at different cross divisional levels to design, produce and deliver the diagnostic solution specific to the new strain as well as complementary molecular biology items. All in a purpose to enable research and diagnostic laboratories in the world to react rapidly and efficiently to the outbreak. By working closely with WHO, CDC and other national health laboratories in the world TaqMan assays based solution has been designed for diagnosing 2019-nCoV. The solution includes specific TaqMan assays against Gene Orf-1ab, Gene S protein and N protein. After close comparison between the actual Coronavirus and new 2019nCoV strain genomes, ThermoFisher team concluded that these three genes differ the most from the standard strains and would provide the best specificity and speed for diagnostic purposes. Once this conclusion has been made, special task force has been created to share the knowledge, produce and deliver the assays rapidly according to growing demand in the world. ThermoFisher Scientific team keeps working in a very dynamic and agile way to create further solutions and leverage its broad genetic analysis capabilities on Capillary Electrophoresis, Next-Generation Sequencing and real time PCR platforms.
