In 2006, digital competence was acknowledged as one of the 8 key competences for lifelong learning by the European Union. Ready or not, 2020 was the year that our survival in the educational arena depended on our ability to advance from managing basic digital tools and platforms towards more productive, communicative, critical and strategic competences. The essence of digital pedagogy is about approaching technology from a critical pedagogical perspective. It is as about using digital tools thoughtfully, paying attention to the impact of the tools on learning and making sure that the tool is not something that is simply aesthetically pleasing or well designed.
Enter Miro. Miro is an aesthetically pleasing and well designed online collaborative white boarding platform. It had all the bells and whistles needed to grab my attention and I was excited about the possibilities it afforded. But the big question was, could I harness the power of this tool to design and implement a pedagogically sound unit of study? The answer, a resounding yes! In this presentation I discuss the critical pedagogical planning applied to exploit the powerful combination of Zoom and Miro and how this combination transformed the educational experience for my students and myself. I will provide evidence of my students` ability to communicate, collaborate, create, and manage information effectively, critically, creatively, and ethically within this killer combination of Zoom and Miro.
