Peace to Prosperity vs. Peace Vision: A Comparison of Two US Presidential Peace Proposals Designed to Resolve the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict

This research focuses on the two most recent peace initiative aimed at solving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. It compares the Trump Administration plan from 2020: “Peace to Prosperity: A Vision to Improve the Lives of Palestinian and Israeli People,” to the Obama “Peace Vision” from 2011. These two plans are assessed in relation to how they differ in vision by addressing key issues of the conflict, such as land, borders, and sovereignty, Jerusalem, refugees, Jewish settlements in the West Bank, and security arrangements.

The findings highlight the many differences between the two plans- in detail and attitude, such as the legitimization of illegal Jewish settlements in the West Bank which was included in the Trump`s administration plan but not in that of the Obama administration. Other differences span over the status of the Arab citizens in Israel, the extent of land swaps, and the desired outcome in regard to Jerusalem. However, it highlights a few significant similarities, such as in regard to the solution of the Palestinian refugees and security arrangements. The conclusions situate the Obama and the Trump approaches in different conflict resolution approaches of third party intervention. While Trump was using the “Power Mediation” and the “Win-Lose” approach for third party intervention, Obama was using the “Pure Mediation” and the “Win-Win” approach.
