Similarities and Differences of Paediatric Training in Europe

In May 2019 the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) published a survey on the satisfaction of paediatric residents with their residency, stating that nearly all of them were satisfied with their training (https://www.aappublications.org/news/2019/05/01/research050119). Within Young EAP future paediatricians work together to promote the health of children and young people in Europe, improve standards in training, service and research and represent the professional interests of paediatricians in the EU. During conversations we realized that although we all work within different training structures, we did not share the extent of satisfaction American trainees seem to, suggesting that the satisfaction with the training is not only dependent on training structures.

In order to find out more about what drives satisfaction with the paediatric training an internal interview session was organized and showed that wishes of paediatric trainees seem to be similar in many cases. During the workshop main findings of the internal interview session will be presented and suggestions for the improvement of the trainees’ satisfaction and the quality of care provided will be discussed.
