Introduction: Atrial fibrillation is a known cardiac manifestation of cardiac amyloidosis. We aimed to investigate whether ATTR CA is associated with the occurrence of lone atrial fibrillation in the absence of a structural heart disease.
Methods and material : A prospective, single-center study of 165 patients at an age less than60 years old with with atrial fibrillation or flutter and no structural heart disease. Of them, 25 patients underwent a comprehensive echocardiographic assessment and screening for the presence of ATTR-CA by PYP scintigraphy.
Results: Of 25 patients screened for the presence of ATTR-CA, none of the subjects were positive for ATTR-CA by PyP scintigraphy.
Conclusion: New onset atrial fibrillation was not associated with the diagnosis of ATTR-CA. Yet, further larger clinical randomized control trials are warranted
