Animal Exploitation and Shoah in the Work of Charles Patterson: How Far Can We Go with This Comparison?

In this research work, which is part of my current PhD thesis named "Vegetarian and vegan approaches in Judaism: an historical journey", I will focus on analyzing the main lines of thought of Charles Partterson in his work "Eternal Treblinka: Our Treatment of Animals and the Holocaust." The controversial comparison between the Shoah and the treatment that is given today to animals destined for human consumption has been the subject of debate and taboo for many Jewish thinkers but also defended by a part of the vegetarian and vegan Jewish community. Relying on texts by other authors such as Isaac Bashevis Singer and Edgar Kupfer-Koberwitz, I will be able to approach this complex and debated line of thought in a more scientific way, trying to understand the thought of those who encourage this idea.
