Kol Isha, A Contemporary Perspective: The Woman’s Voice in Jewish History, Tradition, and Halakhah

Given all the changes that have taken place in our world, the historic question of participation in events containing women singing has resurfaced as an issue both socially and religiously. This presentation discusses some contemporary examples from the perspectives of actuality, traditon, and halacha.

I am supplementing my talk with recordings and videos,
from over 70 years ago, in which women sang liturgical music in public, and the issue of prohibition never came up.
What has happened? My paper puts the question into a historical perspective.
