Israel Film Archive Launches its New Online Digital Film Archive!

For the first time: The Jerusalem Cinematheque unveils - internationally and online - the treasures of the Jewish & Israeli modern history, as filmed from 1896 onwards, allowing a rare glimpse into thousands of historical and cinematic titles available now on a bi-lingual website (Hebrew & English) @ JFC.ORG.IL

Following a 10 million USD digitization, preservation and in-depth research process initiated in 2015 – The new platform makes a substantial contribution in refreshing and updating Israel’s iconographical canon, and moreover - encouraging new research on Jewish & Israel`s history as portrayed in thousands of features, documentaries, newsreels, industrial films, home movies and much more. Researchers are welcomed to browse our one-of-a-kind search engine for our historical tagged materials (https://jfc.org.il/%d7%97%d7%99%d7%a4%d7%95%d7%a9/) while film lovers might want to scroll through the VOD platform (https://jfc.org.il/movie/) which host hundreds of Israeli film titles from all genres, unavailable at any other platform. Most of the films contain English subtitles and are available for free!

The digitization of these rare materials featuring filmed moments and creations taken decades ago is an exciting endeavor that preserves history and allows people from all over the world to experience these rare materials and engaged via the most vivid and alluring means of all - audiovisual documentation. I`d like to present the revolutionary proecess the Israeli film archive underwent in scope of intl. standarts, thus contributing another layer of interpretation to the jewish digital humanities enterprise.
