The final passage in the Book of Daniel (12:5-13) functions as an Appendix to the book, and in particular the section of apocalyptic visions. In the current lecture, I will present a detailed analysis of of the appendix, and demonstrate its secondary nature vis-a-vis the other apocaylptic visions.
Following the identification of shared language and phraseology with earlier passages in Daniel, I will suggest that the appendix should be read as interpretation of the apocalypses in chapters 7 and 11, focusing on specific theological and chronological issues.
In addition, this lecture will offer a new interpretation of the puzzling chronological datum in 12:12 (1,335 days).
