Can the “Temporal Turn” Turn to Midrash Aggadah?

This lecture will look at recent work on temporality in ancient Jewish texts, which has mainly focused on the Babylonian Talmud, and ask how it might apply, perhaps with tempering, to Midrash Aggadah of the tannaitic and amoraic times, with examination of specific textual examples. It would also raise the question of how such temporality constitutes a sort of historiography.
