The first chapter of Seder Eliyahu serves as an overture to the whole text and at the same time it makes friendly overtures to its reader. Starting right from the beginning, with its combination of Gen. 3:24 and Prov. 3:18, this paper searches for clues that may hint at the sort of reader Seder Eliyahu asks for. The study focuses on structural elements of the text a reader can recognize and on literary gaps a reader has to fill.
