Late Biblical Hebrew and Northwest Semitic Epigraphy

כתובות שמיות צפון מערביות מתקופת הבית הראשון עשויות להפריך את איחורם המשוער של פריטי לשון שנחשבו חידושים של העברית המקראית המאוחרת. חוקרים הצביעו על ערכים או תכונות תחביר המזדמנים בכתובות אלו, ואשר על כן הסיקו כי היעדרם בעברית המקראית הקלסית אינו אלא פרי המקרה. בהרצאה יידונו טענות מסוג זה ותיבחן מידת השלכתן על תארוכם של פריטים אחדים.

Inscriptions from the pre-exilic era may refute the assumed late date of certain linguistic features, that were considered innovations of Late Biblical Hebrew. Scholars pointed out a few lexical items and syntactic features that occur in pre-exilic inscriptions, concluding that their absence in Classical Biblical Hebrew is no more than a coincidence. The lecture will discuss arguments of this kind and evaluate their implication on dating a few items.
