The pre- and post-Holocaust reading of The Tempest: Der Shturem (1938/1939) and Der Shturem. Cwiszn (2020)

The main aim of this paper is to present the theatrical productions of The Tempest directed by Leon Schiller (Folks un Jugnt Teater, 1938/1939) and Damian Josef Neć (The Ester Rachel and Ida Kaminska Jewish Theater in Warsaw, 2020). It will discuss the artistic values of these adaptations and analyze their reception from the perspective of social and political relations between Poles and Jews in interwar and contemporary Poland.
