Drawing on the Experience of Heritage Aggregation for Digital Humanities Infrastructures (As part of New Developments in Digital Humanities round table chaired by Dr. Sasha Goldstein-Sabbah)

Many digital humanities applications require large repositories of data to propose and validate research hypotheses. Such repositories are often built from aggregated source collections. While originally having a different goal -- engagement rather than research, digital heritage aggregation initiatives can thus be a valuable source of experience and best practices for efficient digital humanities infrastructure. In this session we`ll critically examine the record, experience and lessons of probably one of the oldest aggregation initiatives of Jewish heritage materials -- Judaica Europeana (running under the umbrella of Jewish Heritage Network as of 2018). We are going to share observations starting from the operations and sustainability of the project and till its raison d`etre -- promoting the semantic interoperability in the Jewish heritage domain for various needs, including digital humanities research.
