Postvernacular Encounters: Traces of Yiddish in Contemporary Literature

author.DisplayName

In this presentation Marianne Windsperger will take a closer look at how the image of Yiddish is shaped and revisted in literary texts that have been published since 2000. These close readings of Yiddish traces in contemporary literature will be framed by recent theoretical conceptions and reflections on Jewish Literatures. By revisiting concepts such as "Postvernacularity", "(un)translatabilty" and "afterlive" these readings will address questions that are central not only to Yiddish literature and Jewish Literatures but to our understanding of texts that are produced in settings that cross lingual borders.
