Scribal Traditions and the Haftarot in Medieval Ashkenazic Bibles

author.DisplayName

Most of the mediaeval biblical manuscripts copied before 1300 are undated, and for those bearing Ashkenazic type of script, it is generally difficult to locate them as coming from a precise region of production within Ashkenazic geo-cultural area. Nevertheless, the scribal traditions of copying Haftarot sections held in Medieval Ashkenazic Bibles are interesting case to observe. They are copied with great stability apart some of them. In those specific cases, the scribal traditions of the Haftarot sections appear to vary systematically from some manuscripts to others. This paper aims to question the variations observed and to search how interpret them as local customs in order to have some eventual new insights on manuscript provenience.
