At some point in the future, the National Institute for Testing and Evaluation (NITE) will cease administering the AMIR and AMIRAM tests, and the English sections of the Psychometric Entrance Test (PET) will be discontinued. In their stead, examinees will take HILAL (the Hebrew acronym for השמה לרמות אנגלית להשכלה גבוהה), a CEFR-aligned, computer-based adaptive test of – initially – reading, listening and writing, which will be administered at testing centers around the country. The talk will present the item types which will appear on the new test, and discuss various challenges encountered along the rocky road of development. You will hear about findings from our pilot tests and feedback forms, and about tasks that still lie ahead.
