author.DisplayName

In the historical journey of the migration of Sephardic Jews from the north of Morocco, the idea of exile is combined with the perennial memory of Sepharad. In the long journey from the land of the parents to the place of destination, routes of meanings derived from their own emotions are woven, shaping their cultural heritage around the world.

In the transatlantic journey of emotions, oral and written tradition are reservoirs of feelings, fears, longings and fears in the face of the reality of host societies. Facing a new context, its political and social circumstances, but especially the processes of cultural integration within the destination, enliven the tidal wave of memory and historical consciousness.

In the case of the migration of Sephardic Jews from northern Morocco to Venezuela, this writing studies the role of nostalgia as an emotional vehicle in the construction of the historical consciousness of this diaspora. Its symbolic and imaginary representations will allow us to inquire about the various meanings and interpretations attributed by said immigration to its material and emotional experience that, mediated by nostalgia, is manifested as historical consciousness.

To this end, testimonies and memoirs become first-hand sources. Through them, we will search several emotional ports that connect past, present and future. In this way, the triad that makes up identity is defined by feeling -pathos-, place, -topos- and time -kairos-, as gears of experience that amalgamate Sephardic consciousness.
