Murky Provenance and the Ethics of Special Collections: An International Task-Force

The National Library of Israel is leading an international consultation on Provenance. Much has been written about the ethics of collecting looted antiquities and Nazi looted art, but very little about such issues in respect to Judaica books, manuscripts, and archives. The NLI and Association of Jewish Libraries will present initial conclusions from an international committee developing guidelines for public research-libraries when purchasing or receiving Judaica textual materials.
