This Roundtable Discussion is an opportunity for practitioners who have grappled with Mediation to put forth their perspectives and engage with our Keynote Speaker Prof. Enrica Piccardo, who will be walking us through this less visited space of the CEFR. As one of the authors of the CEFR, Prof. Piccardo has conceptualized Mediation and researched its implementation across the world. In the Roundtable, four positions will be presented: Elana Spector-Cohen and Lisa Amdur propose that the first steps toward implementation should include revising the Israeli Framework to include Mediation as adapted to our local context; Tziona Levi and Simone Duval describe how they have used PLCs to disseminate the CEFR (and Mediation therein) to teachers in the Israeli school system while the mentors participating in the PLCs became mediators themselves; Ingrid Barth and Leor Cohen attempt to conceptualize Mediation in a teacher-friendly way, emphasizing the added value of Mediation by unpacking and making use of the notion of context; Monica Broido and Daniel Portman present an illustration of how they conceive of and practically implement Mediation in the classroom. Prof. Piccardo will provide her reflections across these various viewpoints, and the discussants and audience members alike will have an opportunity to engage Prof. Piccardo in discussion. In sum, this Roundtable is an attempt to make sense of Mediation, the fourth mode of communication, so that we can better inform policy and practice.
