We set to study cognitive cognition in teleost fish by looking for a representation of space in the activity of single cells in the telencephalon. For this purpose, we recorded the activity of single neurons in the goldfish brain while it was freely navigating in a 3D water tank. We found cells that represent space and dynamics. This study provides evidence for possible neural basis of spatial cognition in teleost.
