Polydiacetylenes (PDAs) constitute a unique class of chromatic conjugated polymers, and their optical properties have been employed in diverse biological and chemical diagnostic applications.

We present the construction and application of few different model system containing PDA for biological studies. Such as small and giant unilamellar liposomes for fast screening of membrane active compounds (peptides, toxins, drugs); disease diagnostic. Small vesicles can be used in water(buffer) solutions or in different matrix (sol-gel, dendrimers). Giant vesicles can be used for microscopic visualization of varied membrane processes. Furthermore, the PDA-containing system association with live mammalian cells, thereby facilitating microscopic analysis of lipid bilayer interactions in actual membrane environments. The PDA systems may serve as a broad-based vehicle for analysis of membrane interactions in diverse model and natural environments.
