Nucleation and growth of domains with opposite polarization moderates the electric field induced polarization reversal process in ferroelectric materials. Accordingly, the domain wall velocity governs the timescale of polarization switching. Achieving the ultimate switching time in ferroelectrics is a fundamental quest to improve the device response time. Here we show a laser-assisted polarization switching dynamics in metal-ferroelectric-metal heterostructure via heat and strain waves induced by a femtosecond laser pulse.
