Biological research holds great promise for fields such as medicine, food, environment and energy. However, most researchers seldomly consider or discuss certain possible dangers or negative implications of biological research. The potential risks, together with the fast democratization of biological research has raised concerns among policy makers, as well as a need for solutions. In this talk, we will go on a short, guided tour through examples of dual use research and discuss possible ideas, precautions, countermeasures and responsibilities.
