I have always been inspired to search for answers to questions, in a goal-oriented way. I have followed a path that I planned out, with twists and turns that excited and motivated me even when there were changes occurring. There has been a balance of the day-to-day versus the monthly and yearly plans. And a sense of optimism and a feeling that I can work towards making changes, but also an acceptance of situations that could not be changed. Combining research in genetics with a laboratory full of trainees has allowed me to spend my time in the most rewarding way possible. I could explore the puzzle of finding a variant associated with a disease, while guiding students to be productive in forming their own career paths. My journey thus far has allowed me to combine the best of all worlds.
