Biological research at the age of bioterror

Every major technology metallurgy, explosives, internal combustion, aviation, electronics, Biotechnology and nuclear energy has been intensively exploited, not only for peaceful purposes but also for hostile ones.
Dual use research concern (DURC) is research that based on our current understanding can be reasonably anticipated to provide knowledge, products or technologies that could be directly misapplied to pose a threat to public health and safety, crops, animals and the environment.
In this talk I will address the risks of DURC and key events that led to the regulation of research on dangerous pathogens. I will also describe the current regulatory situation in Israel.
