Jacques Donnez was born in Tournai (Belgium) on 16 July, 1947. He studied at the Catholic University of Louvain. He defended his PhD thesis in 1984, entitled “The fallopian tube: normal and pathological histophysiology”. He became Full Professor and Head of the Department Gynaecology and Andrology in 1986. He also founded the Infertility Research Unit of the Catholic University of Louvain in 1986. He has focused his research activities on three main topics: tubal infertility, endometriosis and finally, ovarian cryopreservation and transplantation. He published over 600 original articles in peer-review journals. Prof. Donnez was the first President of the recently created International Society for Fertility Preservation (until end of 2010) and has been elected in Februari 2009 at the Royal Belgian Academy of Medicine.

Edgardo Somigliana
Edgardo Somigliana graduated in Medicine in 1994 and completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology in 1999. In 2006, he completed a PhD in Prenatal Medicine. He is currently the head of the ART Unit and of the Obstet-Gynecol emergency service of the Policlinico Hospital in Milan, Italy. Since 2016 he is also Associate Professor at the Università degli Studi of Milan, Italy. He is editor in Chief of Human Reproduction Open. His major scientific interests are infertility and endometriosis. He is author or co-author of more than 420 articles in international journals and has an h-index of 70 (Scopus).
