This study intends to adapt a phonology assessment tool for Kenyan children. It will focus on developing culturally appropriate pictures which are aimed to prompt single consonant phonemes in initial, medial and final positions. The objective of the study will be to; identify the pictures of objects that are culturally and linguistically appropriate for Kenyan children aged 3;0- 5;11years that elicit consonant phonemes in English, establish phonemic acquisition patterns formed in different age levels using the STAP tool and the new tool and determine if there is a difference (if any) in the results of phonemic acquisition patterns in the new and STAP tools. The researcher will anchor the research on the Lenneberg critical period theory. The study will use randomized block design. The target population will be 940 respondents comprising of 376 ECDE teachers and 564 pupils drawn from 47 Counties. The pupils will consist of 282 girls and 282 boys within the age range of 3;0 -5;11 years. The study will use stratified random sampling to select respondents. The proportional stratified random sampling will be used to select a sample size of 94 ECDE teachers and 199 pupils. This study will use questionnaires, observation and audio recording to collect primary data. Data will be analyzed using descriptive survey, One-Way ANOVA and t- test.
