Introduction: The deaf position in Brazil educational and political sphere undergone significant changes in this century. Initially dependent on the hearing community, the deaf community began to have its rights recognized through laws and protest movements driven by Deaf people and academics dedicated to the issue. However, it is known that many basic daily services, from access to the bank to medical consultations, do not work in an accessible way. Objective: To verify what is the representation that Deaf and Hard of Hearing Impaired (D/HH) have of their form of communication and inclusion in their family, work and social participation. Methodology: Survey: online questionnaire. Data analyzed qualitatively. Results: answers indicate difficulty in communication in the family, educational organization, work and social environment. Even oral D/HH shows great dissatisfaction with the forms of communication and inclusion offered. They were analyzed from social relationships and ties with family and friends, to interactions and relationships in academic environments and work environments. In the end, it was possible to perceive the urgency of efficient measures and policies that meet these demands of the deaf community. Conclusion: results indicate the urgent need for policies and practices that promote the inclusion and accessibility of deaf people, both in the work environment and in essential services, such as health care and scchools. The implementation of training in SL for professionals and family members, as well as the adaptation of services to meet the needs of the D/HH, are fundamental steps to ensure the full participation and integration of this community in society.
