The causes of stuttering are not yet fully explained, and there is no universal therapeutic method suitable for every individual. Therapy is always individual and influenced by many factors, including the patient’s personality traits, ability to cope with negative reactions from others, family background, and school or work environment. Stuttering often negatively impacts a person’s mental state, leading to anxiety, depression, or logophobia.

At the Private LOGO Clinic s.r.o. in Brno, we provide comprehensive care with multidisciplinary approach. Therapy involves a clinical speech therapist, psychologist, phoniatrician, neurologist, and other specialists according to the individual patient’s needs. In addition to speech therapy interventions, we also utilize group therapy with elements of drama therapy. The goal is not only to improve speech fluency but also to change the patient’s attitude toward their own speech, boost their self-confidence, and help them manage stressful communication situations.

The therapy is organized in three phases. First, the patient undergoes a one-week diagnostic stay, where interdisciplinary diagnostics are carried out, and an individual therapeutic plan is developed. This is followed by intensive speech therapy and psychological interventions, which include both individual and group sessions. A key element is then transferring the learned techniques to real-life situations.

As part of this phase of therapy, we have developed an innovative approach that allows patients to practice fluent speech in authentic, high-pressure situations. Program participants lead guided tours in a historical villa in Brno, where they not only present expert information but also apply the speech techniques they’ve learned directly in front of villa visitors. This therapy model helps reduce anxiety over public speaking, strengthens self-confidence, and enables effective transfer of skills into everyday life.

The program also includes a qualitative assessment of social phobia through psychological tests before and after the training. The evaluation results show that managing emotional pressure in challenging communication situations leads to improvements in speech fluency. Psychological intervention focused on analysing and changing negative attitudes toward communication plays a key role in the therapy process and contributes to the long-term success of the treatment.
