Israel, like most western countries, has undertaken a series of actions to help stem the outbreak of Ebola in West Africa and to bolster its preparedness for the arrival of suspected Ebola cases at its borders. Israel has sent training teams to West Africa to train local physicians in containing the Ebola outbreak, mobile emergency clinics to affected countries, and is the world leader in per capita monetary aid for affected countries. Israel considers itself at low risk for Ebola importation. However, due to the severe public health implications of such an event, much energy and resources have been directed to this aim. Israel enjoys what appear to be several relative advantages in its ability to prepare for emergencies in general and for Ebola Virus Disease in particular. Israel is a geographically small country, with full control of its border crossings, a strong and centralized national health system, and years of experience in preparedness for emergencies of many types. Israel`s response to the Ebola outbreak in Africa has been not dissimilar to that adopted across the west, however, due to its relative advantages, it has been able to implement them in a comprehensive manner, with complete national coverage. That said, much is left to do in training and implementing existing guidelines at the local and sub-national level.
