1. Problem:
Microvascular anastomosis is key to the success of many surgical procedures since they are responsible for regaining the blood flow to the organ or tissue. The anastomoses are manually performed using stitching of micro needles and sutures. In order to achieve good clinical results, there is a need of precision in the stitching positioning which is very technically changing and time consuming.
2. Solution:
Lydus medical develops an automated suturing device for improved clinical outcomes and reduced operation times in microvascular anastomosis. We have the developed the Veseal an automated microvascular suturing device delivering thread only standardized anastomoses, to enable simple, fast, easy and effective procedures. The device is preloaded with a plurality of micro sutures which enables the surgeon to symmetrically and simultaneously position the sutures at the perimeter of the vessel`s stumps.
3. Medical significance
- To break the connection between the clinical outcome and the surgeon`s skill - making the procedure standardized in terms of symmetry, complexity and time.
- To enable the creation of micro-anastomoses of vessel diameter less that 1mm that will enlarge the pool of options in reconstructive surgery and Lymphedema surgical treatment
4. Target Market
We develop a needle insertion mechanism that is a platform for different devices of a variety of clinical applications, The Lydus technology can connect between any tubes of any type, diameter, wall thickness, anastomosis angle (end-to-end, end-to-side, side-to-side) - which makes it applicable for: Reconstructive surgery - free flap transfer, Organ transplantation, AV-Fistula, Peripheral bypasses, Neurovascular, Lymphedema, CABG and more
